Associate
Being a Markets and Quantitative Analysis Associate at
Citi
For our Full Time Associate Program, we hire talented people,
directly into groups, who can develop innovative assessments of
market opportunities and effectively communicate their information
and ideas.
Initial Training
Full-time Associate Training begins each year in August. If hired
for the Associate Program, you will enter a fast-track training
period that will introduce you to our business, and the
opportunities available to you. Several weeks of classroom training
and product orientation will develop your understanding of
securities analytics, prepare you for licensing with industry
regulators, and introduce the Firm's vast resources.
What You Can Expect To Learn as an Associate
Day-to-day you will interact constantly with the Sales and Trading
Division making recommendations they can pass on to clients,
helping them trade market securities to clients and going on sales
calls. You will build tools and models that assist traders in
pricing, hedging and structuring securities, and provide critical
information and advice for managing risk within the Fixed Income
Division and throughout the Firm.
Who We’re Looking For
We look for those with an MS or PhD in a quantitative field like
Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Finance, Mathematics,
Operations Research, Physics or Statistics. Good analytical and
computer skills (C/Java preferable) are critical. Strong
interpersonal, writing and oral skills are also important because a
large part of an Associate’s role is liaising with clients,
salespeople and traders. Although a background in finance or
economics is advantageous, we believe that candidates with
exceptionally strong quantitative skills can come to a deep
understanding of the financial markets.
Summer Associate Program
The Summer Associate Program has been a successful route into the
Firm for many interns since its inception. Typically Summer
Associates will work on more than one problem across one or more
asset types. In addition, Summer Associates attend a bi-weekly
seminars in which senior strategists from various areas in the Firm
provide overviews of their markets and their strategic approaches
to analyzing those respective sectors.
In general, we look for candidates with the same characteristics as
those we hire for permanent positions. These include strong
mathematical and technical skills, the ability to carry on creative
research and synthesize information, as well as effective
communication skills for liaising with customers, colleagues,
traders and salespeople alike.
After Training
Summer Associates will participate in a ten-week intern program to
work on advanced problems in Fixed Income modeling. Our Summer
Associates work closely with senior researchers on important
business problems. You will also be part of a formal mentor
program, a thorough review process, and meet as many Citi people as
possible to learn about and fully understand our company. All of
which is designed to give you a greater chance of recieving a
full-time offer upon graduation.
