Analyst

Being an Investment Banking Analyst at Citi
Analysts are critical to the success of our investment bank. They provide the foundation for everything we do, from research, valuation and modeling to coordination.
Initial Training
Your training starts with an orientation that provides you with an overview of Citi and, more specifically, the Institutional Clients Group. You’ll also get to meet people from the different teams that make up the Investment Banking Division and ultimately decide which team you would like to join. You will be placed depending on your preference as well as where we might need you.
The in-depth training program is taught by some of the industry’s most qualified professionals with years of real-world experience. These fundamental aspects of the Analyst role will be covered:

  • Tracking business development (industry trends, organizing data);
  • Financial analysis (financial models, valuation / pro-forma analysis, corporate finance);
  • Client development (assist in the presentation of new ideas to clients).

What You’ll Learn as an Analyst at Citi
There’s still a lot to learn after your initial training. Senior management and client interaction, as well as mentorship, will help shape your new position as an analyst.

  • At the end of the first year as an analyst you can expect to be an expert in financial modeling & have worked on multiple interesting projects;
  • At the end of your second year as an analyst you can expect to worked directly with several members of senior management;
  • For those who are invited to stay on for a third year, you can expect to learn a portion of the associate role.

Who We’re Looking For
We are looking for the best people who have business degrees as well as those with other backgrounds. What matters most is a high level of motivation, excellent communication skills and, of course, your academic performance. A true passion for the business is also vital.

Summer Analyst
The summer internship program starts in June with a one-week in-depth training program. During the first day you’ll get an overview of Citi and our Investment Banking Division. After that you’ll jump into four days of classroom training and learn these basic parts of the Summer Analyst role:

  • Fundamentals of valuation
  • Citi’s library and information services
  • External information systems (e.g. Bloomberg)
  • Important financial products commonly used

After Training
Depending on where we need you and what you’re interested in, you’ll be assigned to an industry or product coverage group where you’ll focus on financial analysis and business development.
You will make the most of the summer by taking advantage of all our programs like the Distinguished Speaker Series, where senior management host discussions and answer questions. You can also become involved in the formal mentor program that allows you to establish connections with Citi’s more experienced bankers to gain invaluable knowledge. And when it comes to fun, our calendar of events for the summer will also feature the best of everything your city has to offer.
