Associate

Being an Investment Banking Associate at Citi
Associates are the linchpins of a project team, responsible for everything from the smallest detail to integrating high-level strategy.  As industries all over the globe continue to restructure and grow, we need to recruit people who have what it takes to keep Citi successful.
Initial Training
Starting in August, you’ll get a jump-start with our six-week intensive training program run by some of the best minds in the business. They will teach you with a “learn by doing” method that involves case studies, presentations and of course, plenty of homework.
The hours will be long, but they will be coupled with excellent training, real-world experience, and senior executive exposure- in short, a strong foundation that will help your career grow.
What You Can Expect To Learn as an Associate
As an Associate your primary responsibilities will be to manage time and expectations, become the knowledge expert on the projects you work on, and to drive analyses and processes forward. You’ll create ideas, impact valuations and help to improve the way we deal with clients. This experience is the best way to prepare for a future of more senior banking roles.
Who We’re Looking For
The Associate program is for the best people who have their MBA degree, JD or PhD. We aren’t really looking for people who fit into a specific investment banker mold. Our professionals come from diverse backgrounds, and as a company we emphasize individuality. These qualities are reflected in the diverse talents and backgrounds of our Associates.

Summer Associate Program
The Summer Associate program begins in June with a three-day in-depth training program where the top bankers at the firm will share their experiences with you. The goal is to teach you the skills you will need to be successful in the role and to prepare you to be a full-time Associate. You’ll learn skills like:

  • Accounting review
  • Valuation techniques
  • Citi’s library and information services
  • Use of external information systems (e.g. Bloomberg)
  • An overview of the most important financial products
  • End-of-training case study assignment

The program is meant for you to participate and engage so that you can get the most out of the experience. You’ll also focus on the detailed but important things like your computer and data-gathering skills.
And, as always, our junior bankers will be available to offer you advice on everything from juggling multiple projects to interacting with clients.
After Training
After your three days of training, you will jump right into the role of the full-time Associate. You will be exposed to several different groups of your choice and will become an important member of a team working on financing and advisory mandates as well as new business presentations.
You will also be part of a formal mentor program, a thorough review process, and meet as many Citi people as possible to learn about and fully understand our company. All of which is designed to give you a greater chance of recieving a full-time offer once your graduate program is completed.
