Analyst

Being a Public Finance Analyst at Citi
Public Finance Analysts are assigned to teams of 3 to 5 professionals who are responsible for covering a specific client. Our Analysts work in specialized teams within the municipal department including public power financing, not-for-profit healthcare, low-income family housing, airports, infrastructure financing, technical structuring, and local and state specific municipalities.
Tasks of an Analyst may include:

  • Learning a client’s historical financing trends. This could involve researching past uses of debt or derivatives to finance projects to provide bankers with overview of client’s debt position.
  • Participating with the bankers and clients in meetings and conference calls to review current market conditions and formulate future capital programs.
  • Applying new financing, optimization and hedging strategies to financial transactions based on the client’s financing needs.
  • Working in tandem with the Credit and Financial Products Group to obtain live pricing and structure hedging strategies to optimize the client's plan of finance.
  • Assisting in the execution of transactions. This will include documentation, pricing, presentations to investors and rating agencies, credit and internal approvals, policy compliance, client entertainment and deal closing coordination.
  • Researching market, credit, tax, regulatory, accounting, legal, policy and issuer-specific issues relating to prior or future transactions.

Initial Training
Your training starts with orientation that gives you an overview of Citi and, more specifically, the Institutional Clients Group. During this, you’ll also get to meet people from the different teams that make up the Public Finance Division and ultimately decide which team you would like to join. You will be placed depending on your preference as well as where we might need you.
After Analysts successfully complete the formal training program, they join a Public Finance group.
What You’ll Learn as an Analyst at Citi
There’s still a lot to learn after your initial training. Senior management and client interaction, as well as mentorship, will help shape your new position as an analyst.

After Training
Depending on where we need you and what you’re interested in, you’ll be placed in a functional group where you’ll become immersed in the team’s current work.
You will make the most of the summer by taking advantage of all our programs like the Distinguished Speaker Series, where senior management host discussions and answer questions.
