What advice would you offer prospective candidates on transitioning from school to the workplace?

My advice would be to make the most of the challenges presented to you.  In school, tasks are assigned to you; it is not always that way once you join the workforce.  Seek out opportunities and never write-off a task as frivolous.  Try to find value in everything and do your best at it.  Also, do not be embarrassed to ask questions.  People will astound you with their consideration if you demonstrate a genuine motivation and desire to succeed.

If asked about your career at a dinner party, how would you describe it?

My career is something that is continually evolving.  In joining the CO&T Associate Program, I made a conscious decision to expose myself to three differing assignments within an organization as large as Citi.  In my current rotation, new projects and challenges arise daily.  I am working to gain the most from each new experience, striving to develop my skill set and find my interest prior to my final placement.

Describe the most memorable experience you’ve ever had at Citi.

My most memorable experience with Citi occurred during my first rotation in Tampa. I was part of a team working to implement a new financial reporting system in Brazil.  As part of the rotation, I traveled to Sao Paulo to train end users of businesses in Brazil on the Business Objects reporting tool.  The experience was incredible.  Not only did it provide me with the opportunity to work in an entirely new culture, I was also able see the true breadth of Citi.  I was able to put a face to the people that I emailed and spoke on the phone with everyday.  They were extremely welcoming and I was able to build a global network of more than just business contacts.

What do you consider Citi’s competitive edge?

I think Citi’s competitive edge comes from its people. The organization places a significant value on developing and maintaining talent. By investing in its employees, Citi demonstrates a strategic plan to empower its human assets and create an environment that will continue to grow and succeed under a united Citi culture.

How would you describe your team and the people you work with?

I have a truly great team.  They are highly dedicated, talented, good people.  Never would I have imagined finding such a welcoming work environment in an organization the size of Citi.  There is a genuine care for the well-being of one another in and out of the office.

What other groups do you liaise with regularly within the firm?

In my current rotation in the CO&T Chief Administration Office, I work not only with the O&T sectors, but also the various O&T leaders within the businesses.  In the current project I am involved in, I liaise daily with marketing and technology contacts form the various sectors.   The rotation has provided me with an understanding of the overall structure of Citi and how the various groups interact.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I am based out of New York, so I love doing basically any and everything in the city!  I have an incredible group of friends here.  We go to cultural events, museums, movies, and dinners.  Also, I love fashion and shopping.  I volunteer on the weekend in Tompkins Square Park and really enjoy yoga, traveling, and reading.
