What about your career excites you the most—gets you out of bed in the morning?
I love that when I come in to work everyday my job will be different than the day before. The markets can be so unpredictable and that allows for each day to be fresh and exciting. Many jobs can become monotonous but my seat allows me to be in touch with everything that is going on the world and allows me to be active and competitive every single day.

How would you describe your team and the people you work with?
My team is excellent. The key to our success is that we are constantly working together and relying on each other in order to succeed. You are not going to succeed in this business on your own and you need competent and cooperative people to help you along the way. The focus is constantly on how the desk as a whole can succeed rather than the individual. I believe that it is this mentality that results in us all developing as smarter, stronger, and more efficient employees.

How do you apply your degree to what you’re doing now?
There are many things that I learned in school which simply do not correlate directly with what I am doing now. However I have found that it is the core values of my major that I have been able to apply most effectively in my new role. As an engineer, I was taught to think analytically and to strive to discover new ways of doing things. By the nature of my work I also learned that a strong work ethic is necessary to succeed. This has enabled me to look at my new seat in a different way and use my skills in order to find ways in which I can better myself and the people I work with.

How has Citi supported your career development?
Citi has a strong focus on developing young talent because they understand that we are the future of the firm. I have never felt that I cannot approach very senior members of the business for advice or direction. It is this that has helped me to grow quickly and learn more effectively. I believe that it is one of Citi’s greatest attributes.

How did your summer internship help you make the decision to pursue a career at Citi?
The summer internship was an essential part of my decision to join Citi. Through the internship I was able to rotate through a number of desks and see how multiple businesses functioned. This allowed me to better understand how the finance industry functioned as a whole entity. Additionally the network that I developed and the mentors that I gained during that summer have been invaluable to my career thus far.
